Abstract
This paper discusses reactive power compensation devices and systems that play a key role in increasing the power factor and reducing losses in electrical networks, including railway power supply systems. Low values of the power factor lead to an increase in electricity costs, as well as to the imposition of penalties by energy supply organizations. An analysis of the effectiveness of compensation devices has been carried out from the perspective of reducing losses, reducing fines and overall reducing operating costs. Promising artificial intelligence technologies used to manage compensation processes, including an assessment of potential risks and limitations in their implementation, are considered. The calculation of the residual reactive power is presented, as well as an assessment of economic efficiency is performed and the payback period of the studied systems is determined.
